{"id":221,"date":"2021-03-15T14:18:02","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T14:18:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/?page_id=221"},"modified":"2022-01-09T09:36:02","modified_gmt":"2022-01-09T09:36:02","slug":"what-is-a-little-silence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/march-2021-volume-503\/what-is-a-little-silence\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Little Silence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><b>Hugo Spencer<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b2b2b; font-size: 16px;\">The moon may not be born of silence <\/span>and it may be loud again.<\/p>\n<p>The snow on top of the mountain<\/p>\n<p>isn\u2019t that silent.<\/p>\n<p>My little doggy Tilly and I can hear it:<\/p>\n<p>tippity tap, tippity tap.<\/p>\n<p>In the evening, Tilly and I sometimes sit on the sofa<\/p>\n<p>and we hear sounds outside:<\/p>\n<p>May be the courtyard is not that silent.<\/p>\n<p>Scrapyards aren\u2019t always that silent<\/p>\n<p>big stray doggies might be snoring: hrrrrrr hrrrrrr!!!<\/p>\n<p>The best hiding spots<\/p>\n<p>aren\u2019t always so quiet:<\/p>\n<p>at the bottom of the garden,<\/p>\n<p>behind sofas,<\/p>\n<p>and the cupboard under the stairs.<\/p>\n<p>Under the sea in caves \u2013 it is sometimes silent.<\/p>\n<p>In the open sea \u2013 it is not always so quiet.<\/p>\n<p>Tilly and I never like total, total silence.<\/p>\n<p>But a little silence is nice.<\/p>\n<p>Like little footsteps of birds pattering in the snow:<\/p>\n<p>tip, tap, tip, tap.<\/p>\n<p>When it is sunny, I want some rain<\/p>\n<p>and sometimes rain comes.<\/p>\n<p>My ears and Tilly\u2019s ears see the silence:<\/p>\n<p>silence makes a circular shape when it is cold,<\/p>\n<p>and a square shape when it is warm;<\/p>\n<p>and all shapes at once when it is very happy.<\/p>\n<p>Silence smells like lavender.<\/p>\n<p>And sometimes, smells like sage.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"fasc-button fasc-size-medium fasc-type-glossy fasc-rounded-medium fasc-ico-before dashicons-arrow-up-alt fasc-style-bold\" style=\"background-color: #0315a3; color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/march-2021-volume-503\/\">Back to March 2021 Newsletter Main Page<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Forty-Three<\/em> e-Newsletter \u2022 Number 503 \u2022 March 2021<br \/>\n<\/strong>Oxford Friends Meeting<br \/>\n43 St Giles, Oxford OX1 3LW<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">newsletter@oxfordquakers.org<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hugo Spencer The moon may not be born of silence and it may be loud again.
