But expensive uniforms do the opposite\u2019.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Quoted from the Children\u2019s Society<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenssociety.org.uk\/what-we-do\/our-campaigns\/cut-the-cost-school-uniforms\"><em>Cutting the cost of uniform\u2019s leaflet<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The UK Government introduced legislation in September 2022 as a result of research and campaigning undertaken by The Children\u2019s Society over 7 years, to ensure that school uniforms are practical and affordable by all parents.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3833\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3833\" style=\"width: 219px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/School-Uniforms.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3833 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/School-Uniforms-219x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"219\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/School-Uniforms-219x300.jpg 219w, https:\/\/oxfordquaker.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/School-Uniforms.jpg 548w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 219px) 100vw, 219px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3833\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wikimedia Commons photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Under this Act of Parliament, Schools are now required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To publish their uniform policy online<\/li>\n<li>To consider the overall cost of a child\u2019s uniform over their time in the school, including its replacement due to child\u2019s growth<\/li>\n<li>To introduce competitive tendering for uniform suppliers<\/li>\n<li>To ensure pre-loved uniforms are available via sales or swap shops<\/li>\n<li>To avoid having house colours that limit parent\u2019s ability to hand down clothes to younger children<\/li>\n<li>To limit the use of a school logo<\/li>\n<li>To ensure that clothing is available from the widest possible number of outlets so that parents can choose the best deals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, if you are a worried parent, take this leaflet along to the school, and ask if they believe their school has complied with the 2022 law.
